Perak Bomba not giving up on finding second victim's remains from quarry incident


IPOH: The Fire and Rescue Department will continue its search and rescue mission to locate the remains of the second victim buried under rubble from a rockfall that occurred in March at a quarry in Keramat Pulai.

Its operations deputy director Muhamad Shahrizal Aris said operations would continue depending on the weather.

He said the department received a call from the police on the discovery of the remains of the first victim at about 10.20am on Tuesday (Sept 20).

"The operation has been ongoing since March and has been carried out by quarry workers.

"The department's K-9 unit has also been deployed to locate the remains of the second victim," he said at the site in Simpang Pulai.

Muhamad Shahrizal said the skeletal remains of the first victim have been handed over to the forensics unit to determine the identity of the victim.

Earlier, department director Azmi Osman had said that the skeletal remains of a victim involved in the quarry incident had been found after a six-month search and rescue operation.

He said an excavator, clothes and the skeletal remains were discovered between 11.45am and noon on Tuesday.

During the 9.15am incident on March 8, two victims, Kheow Loo Siew Soon, 49, and Itam Lasoh, 43, were buried under the rubble.

Two more victims, Mohd Razli Suhaimi, 35, suffered a broken leg while Pan Tam, 38, sustained light injuries.
